Discover the Charm of Ranikhet: A Glimpse into Its History
Nestled in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Ranikhet—meaning "Queen's Meadow"—is a picturesque hill station with a history as captivating as its landscapes. Legend has it that Queen Padmini of the Kumaon region was so enchanted by the natural beauty of this place that King Sudhardev built a palace for her. Though no remnants of the palace remain, the area came to be known as Ranikhet in her honor.
Later, during the British era, Ranikhet became an important cantonment town. The British were drawn to its cool climate and scenic surroundings, establishing it as a summer retreat and military base. Today, Ranikhet continues to serve as a cantonment town for the Indian Army's Kumaon Regiment.
